A paste mix that I fashioned from overwetted Sonu Fin Perfect micro pellets, bound together with a handful of Sonu Tigerfish groundbait, helped me to a section win and fourth overall in the final round of the UK Championships, fished at Barston Lakes.

The paste is mixed by leaving Sonu Fin Perfect 1mm feed pellets to soak overnight in plenty of water, so they are totally overwetted.

The pellets are then strained through a sieve to remove the excess water and they can then be kneaded into a paste, adding a little bit of Sonu Tigerfish groundbait, also sieved fine, to act as an irresistible binding agent.

On the match itself I drew peg 70 and fished the paste at 13 metres, using a Preston Paste Pot to ship the baited hook to the swim, with a Preston Cad Pot positioned further towards the pole tip, so that I could feed little golf-balls of 2mm and 4mm Sonu Fin Perfect pellets, bound together with Sonu Stiki Pellet, into the killing area.

The ploy worked like a charm and although I never started catching at lightning speed I kept plodding away, catching fish steadily through the match. In all I had three carp which weighed, 2lb, 5lb and 10lb, plus six bream and the 16 F1s for a weight of 26 kilos.

Rigwise I used a Preston Innovations Durafloat 6 in a 4 x 18 size, on 0.15mm Preston Innovations Powerline with a bulk of seven number eight shot 18 inches from the hook, a Preston Innovations PR 456 size 12. I used a Preston Innovations 11H Hollo elastic with a Preston Pulla Kit which gave me the perfect compromise for smaller and larger fish.
