spacer A successful week - Duncan Charman   9 APRIL 2011
spacer spacer spacer

Monday – After last week l was really looking forward to a bream session, so headed south with my mind full of huge dustbin lids. I have slightly strengthened my terminal tackle as this spring l am looking to increase my carp best, and with fish to over 40lb swimming in front of me lm hoping that if one does come along l will be able to land it. Arriving late afternoon l managed to drop into my favourite swim, sling out sixty balls of Sonubaits groundbait laced with pellets and corn and get the rods sorted by 6pm. An hour before dusk a modest bream came along and thoughts of a hectic night crept in, however it wasn’t to be as only one more came plus a 24lb 9oz mirror fell during before midnight.

Tuesday – Dawn saw a screamer develop but unfortunately my hook pulled on what felt like a very big carp. Two more modest bream plus the same ornamental as last year followed before a 9am departure.

In the evening I produced a three-hour slideshow for the TAC at the Bell Public House at Hampton that seemed to be received very well.

Wednesdays – No fishing on Wednesday, just time spent preparing tackle for a guiding day in the morning.

Thursday – My first ever customer, Matt Vickery had re-booked me, this time wanting an introduction to Stillwater angling so with a small day ticket water lending itself to a variety of methods, plus the chance of a big fish, once again l headed south. We arrived at the normally popular water at 8.15am to find it deserted so headed to an area that gave access to the centre of the lake. Five minutes after the helicopter rigs were cast out Mat found himself playing a 12lb common, then went on to land another, plus six quality roach weighing 1lb 11oz, 1lb 11oz, 1lb 12oz, 1lb 14oz, 2lb 1oz and 2lb 3oz along with his first eel on a variety of methods, which gave him three personal bests in a day!

Friday – The feature that went horribly wrong last week at Broadlands was rescheduled for today so it was off to Sumners Pond in West Sussex. Weather conditions weren’t great but myself and Alan took over 100lb of bream and carp to produce a great feature for TCF.
