No fishing for me this week as it’s been a family reunion in Cornwall and with my brothers two kids it was one of an educational few short sessions in diverse angling.

It’s all about catching fish in order to keep them focused and our first outing was to a small coarse complex with my godson Max, definitely a natural fisherman. Ian at Sonubaits had sent some small boilie type baits to be tested so it seemed fitting that we used them and did they work? Well, when a nine-year old asks to be taken too the specimen lake after a couple of hours because the other lake is too easy, then the answer is definitely, yes. In the two hours on the smaller of the lake we managed at least a dozen carp, whilst my experienced father took just two! Max, bolt rigged the small fruity boilies and used the Method for the first time with scolded pellets wrapped around.

The following day we were off to the quay with his younger brother Zac but no one along the stone wall caught anything and it was a case of catching some crabs to try and keep their interest.

The pinnacle of the holiday was on a boat out of St Ives were both lads caught Mackerel on hand lines and feathers, fed the seals and watched as two huge Sunfish drifted past. The catch was paraded through the busy streets as the lads returned home to feed the nine adults that were relying on them.
