The final week of the season and its all out to see if l can beat my tally of rudd that l caught last year throughout the same period.
The week started good as on Monday night l managed two, two-pounders including my best of this winter at 2lb 15oz along with another of 2lb 9oz. This catch was surprising as l drove around the lake at dawn on Monday and the lake was 40% frozen.
Tuesday things took a nose dive with only two tench showing, however it was good to see angling companion Alan Stagg recording a new personal best rudd of 2lb 9oz and can l say well deserved from the effort he’s been putting in. Thursday looked better as the dreaded easterly that’s been constant for weeks finally started to drop and with the water temperature above six degrees felt that the fishing might be better and this was proven right when a brace of 2lb 9oz rudd hit the net along with a smaller one and five tench. Those two rudd took my tally for the fortnight to fifteen, one better than last year so my target was achieved leaving anything that was caught on Friday night an extra bonus.
Unfortunately and even in what had to be the best conditions of the campaign the fish decided not to cooperate and l recorded my first blank of the campaign.
Frensham has a way of bringing you back to earth, however it’s this unpredictability that l find so intriguing and addictive, roll on June!
