On Monday l was called to take some pictures, as my brother had taken his son Max perch fishing, however his lobworm was picked up by a 12lb common which set a new personal best for him.

Tuesday it was of to River Farm Fishery to produce a roach article for OnlineFishing.tv and knowing Alan Stagg had been catching consistently over the Easter weekend felt confident of a two-pounder for the camera. When we arrived, roach were showing all over the lake and it only took a couple of minutes for my brother to catch one of 1lb 14oz. Casting maggot feeders to the centre of the lake the sport continued in a steady manner with both of us catching around a dozen roach over the pound and an eel each, but around 10pm the sport stopped. It was like someone flicking a switch as the bites stopped and the jumping carp and swirling roach disappeared. The rods were back out at 5-30am but the wind had swung 180 degrees from a southeast to a northwest, something that usually halts sport instantly until the fish get used to the change.

The feeder produced three more net roach but the going was tough and even the waggler and long rod failed to produce. On the up side, where can you go and catch a couple of dozen big roach, even on a slow day and the cameraman was well happy with the footage he got.

I was really looking forward to an early start on Friday but the temperature dropped away over night due to the high pressure and a hint of frost lay across the countryside. Mill Farm Fishery was my destination, home of the British record silver bream but with the temperature soon rose to 19 degrees, no wind and cloudless skies just a single carp and the occasional net roach showed.

The session was ended early due to the conditions and the evening was spent at the Carp Societies, Horseshoe Lake where the English Carp Heritage Organisation held their AGM.
