spacer Check Out My Sticky Method Mix   16 JUNE 2008
spacer spacer spacer

In the run-up to the Super League Final, I was doing a lot of Method feeder fishing at Barston, using a mixture of Sonubaits’ Fin Perfect Mix 1, Supergreen Crush and brown sugar.

The Dorking team knew that carp could play a key role in the outcome and we wanted to have a trick up our sleeves to help us. Luckily, we won our tenth Super League crown and now I’d like to explain how the sticky Method works.
Basically, at Barston, we knew that on some days the Method feeder would get you between one and three carp, from the right pegs, but it was a real game of patience.
In a nutshell, we weren’t looking for many bites at all, and the feeder had to be out on the lakebed for up to half-an-hour at a time.
More importantly, the ball of feed on the feeder had to stay intact, until a carp came along, and that’s why brown sugar was used, to act as a binding agent.
If you fancy trying this mix, the proportions, or ratios, are: One bag of Fin Perfect Mix 1, one bag of Supercrush Green and 330 grams of standard brown sugar (a third of a kilo bag).
The feeder rod I used was a 12’ 8” Preston Innovations Dutch Master, with 8lb Korum Reel Line and a Korum inline flat feeder, with a short hook length of .021mm Preston Powerline and a size 12 Preston PR36, with an 8mm white boilie hair-rigged.
The Dutch master rod was needed to send the feeder between 75 to 90 turns of the reel handle - approximately 65 to 85 yards - and then it was a case of tightening up and waiting for a carp to move in.
We had a few placings with the Method in the run-up to the event and, although the open end feeder  and pole approach dominated the final itself, it was a valuable get out of jail card for our anglers, had it been a harder match.
Adding brown sugar to the mix is certainly one worth remembering if you ever find yourself in a situation where you know you will need to keep the Method feeder fully loaded as you wait for bites.
