I've been having some great bream fishing success this winter with Sonu Baits' Ton-Up 6mm Expanders, hair-rigged with a Korum Quickstop. And here I'm going to share my secrets with you on how I do it .
Just yesterday I finished second on the latest Rushmore Winter League match at Gold Valley, with 53lb of bream, with several fish coming to the expander pellet, presented on a hair-rig, on the feeder.
I've found that because the Ton-Up Pellets from Sonu Baits are so fibrous, they stay on the hair-rig really well, even when casting a feeder some distance.
I simply pump the pellets on the bank as I tackle up, and I keep them in the pump until they reach the size that I want, and then I drain most of it off and put them in a tub on my sidetray.
They behave really well, when being threaded on to a Korum Quickstop, and for readers who want to know which hook I use, it is the PR36 from Preston Innovations, in a size 18.
At Gold Valley you have to fish a running feeder, so that is what I do, and I pack the feeder with neat Supercrush Green, which I think is a great skimmer and bream groundbait, with a few soaked 2mm micro pellets inside.
Bream, thesedays, are totally hooked on pellets on commercial waters. When you get a bite with the hair-rigged Ton-Up expander pellet, you can't miss them. The tip starts to slowly go round, and keeps going as the fish, already hooked, swims away.
Give the Ton-Up expanders a try on your next bream match. They do the business for me, every time I draw on a few!
