spacer Match Win on Method Feeder with Expander Pellet   24 JULY 2008
spacer spacer spacer

I have just had a match win at moon lakes, Tattershall, Lincs, with 144 LB of carp on method feeder.

I'm using 2mm Fin Perfect Feed Pellets, which I submerge in water for a couple of minutes when I get to my peg. Then put them on a riddle to drain and by the time you've got set up they will have swelled up and be a nice spongy texture, perfect for pressing onto a Korum flat bed method feeder.

I have also been putting a hand full of dampened 4mm Fin Feed pellets in the mix, which as worked really well, stopping the carp becoming preoccupied on the 2mm pellets.

Hook bait wise I've been starting with 8mm S-Pellet or a Bacon Grill Paste Pellet, hair rigged to 0.17 power line to a 18 Korum S3 hook. (experiment with hook bait, everyday is different)

Casting regularly to build up a bed of bait you tend to get a few quick fish then it goes quiet that's where I think a lot of anglers go wrong! They give up and try other methods, but you need to stick at it, keep casting and when they come back your peg will get stronger and stronger.

A little trick that's worked really well for me, especially when you've got a few fish in your peg, blowing bait around is to use a 6 mm Fin perfect expander  straight from the bag using a bait band on the hair, as the pellet takes on water the band tightens around the pellet, meaning you can often have several casts, on the same pellet saving time. Being an expander it naturally wants to float giving you a popped up pellet 3 inches above your feeder. On it's day it's unbeatable. Try it in a bowl of water so you understand how it works.
