This week’s time seems to have been completely taken up doing fishing related activities, and it seems that the angling freelance photography direction might just pay off with a number of booked features.

Monday was spent driving too and from the Tackle and Guns show near Coventry where I sowed the seeds with a number of publications.
Tuesday was spent on the banks of the Blue Pool with good friend Colin Davidson who required some photography doing for his imminent articles. Certainly a good learning curve as Colin has carried out numerous photography shoots for me and l know what a great photographer he is, so for him to request my services came with some shock but also loads of respect.
Wednesday was spent catching up with office paperwork and making sure things were operating smoothly before my only days fishing of the week came, and what a day it was.
You may recall that I mentioned last week that a secret had been discovered regarding a southern day ticket water that had produced some cracking roach for a few in the know anglers last winter. No need to arrive early as this was just a visit to familiarise ourselves with the venue and arriving at a little after 9am after a 40 minute drive through some fantastic Hampshire countryside finally bought us to our destination.
First thoughts were, big roach you’re joking, but second put in and a 1lbs 8oz roach dropped into the net. At the same time dad was landing one of 1lbs 9oz. Paradise, you bet and after fishing six hours l finished up with a good 50lbs of prime roach which fell to either the waggler or a small pole float fished of the end of a 17ft carbonactive. Most of my fish were over 1lbs 8oz, probably thirty or more with the best three going 2lbs, 2lbs 1oz and 2lbs 2oz! Dad caught, although he found the going tough at times but still caught roach to 1lbs 14oz. With the rain clouds building we called it a day at 4pm, not even fishing the best times, dawn or dusk, but we will be back, very soon. If you want to know the venue, then keep an eye on the press as now the words out l fear it’s going to get some serious attention. It’s serious article material but l wonder who will be the first to publicly announce it, time will tell!
What’s going on next week?
Monday night I’m on Cemex, Kingsmead in search of more quality roach, the odd carp plus the chance of a massive pike. Wednesday were off to the Royalty, helping out with the Korum Challenge winners. The rest of the week will be spent finalising the boat preparation, as well as a brief water test and maybe another visit to the roach pool on Friday.
