spacer A Good Roach - Duncan Charman   14 APRIL 2009

The feature for Sky Sports, Tight Lines never went to plan and for reasons beyond my control l found myself in a corner of the lake, well away from the area l would have preferred.

After eighteen hours, not even a liner had come to my rods and although fishing friend Steve Ansell had managed to catch a good bream and tench to save the day l needed to catch and three hours after the camera crew arrived l decided that l needed to move to another lake and an hour after casting out caught a bream of 8lbs 11oz to save face.

Grabbing the AT on my way home l was amazed not to have won a Drennan cup award for my rudd captures. All the effort over the last few weeks in cruel conditions and not to get any recognition is beyond me, need l say more!

Wednesday was spent on a roach water in far from ideal conditions and with twenty other anglers on the two-acre lake results reflected this. Fishing the waggler produced just one good roach and the long rod, three. Casting out the maggot feeder, heli-bolt rig with half an hour to go produced another three, so l know what method l will start of on next time. Dad managed a few and with the photos completed for an article the day wasn’t a complete write of.

Thursday night and Friday was spent in the company of Echo and CEFAS in Weymouth to create more awareness for the knew echo Regional Organisers along with doing some networking with other organisations and fellow anglers concerned at saving our heritage.

Saturday morning saw me rising at 3-45am to complete a Cemex article. My job was behind the lens however the angler failed to catch so it looks like another plan is needed next week.

To say I’m knackered is an understatement. To many sleepless nights, early mornings along with erratic eating has completely drained me, so next week its time to wind down and try to get some normality back.
