Last Saturday saw me revisiting the lake where I had a nice catch of perch the week before. After a very cold night I arrived at the lake to see it frozen solid.

I decided to try again on Sunday and after some heavy rain overnight, which saw the temperatures increasing I arrived to see the lake had now thawed. A maggot and worm attack brought very little response and I finished the day with a handful of small perch to show for my efforts.
With the weatherman predicting it to stay fairly chilly for the week ahead once I had arrived back home I got the carp rods ready for a few evenings fishing after work. By casting regularly and fishing very slack lines to indicate where the fish where held up I found them tightly shoaled in the middle of the lake. I soon started catching and after four short sessions lasting no more than a few hours I finished with 12 fish the best a common weighing 17lb 12oz.
Friday evening was the most productive despite the clear sky and the temperatures dropping. By 9pm I had managed five to just over 16lb. Most of the fish where in the high singles and low double figure bracket and fell to a Sonubaits 11mm halibut pellet with a small PVA bag containing 6mm halibut pellets.
Saturday saw me back at the perch lake, however the easterly wind had chilled the shallow water and with at least 15 other anglers on we all caught very little.
