I returned to the tench lake for a short overnight session and arriving at the venue I was pleasantly surprised to find a lack of cars present and I was able to get back into the area that had been producing well for me over the last week.

Confident of some action I spodded a mixture of hemp, 4mm halibut pellets and dead maggots onto a clear area amongst dense weed.
The conditions looked good and with some of the lakes cagey carp population jumping nearby I decided to use just the one rod feeling that two lines running through the swim could be more detrimental than advantageous. I cast a pva bag of maggots to the spot and sat back hopeful of some action.
Deciding to use just the one rod proved the correct decision and over the course of the session I had seven takes landing 5 tench, the best weighing 8lb 1oz.
Whilst fishing the venue I have been watching the lakes grass carp population and some of the fish spotted have looked very big. My next two sessions, both short over night sessions were with these in mind. Fishing over beds of hemp and 4mm halibut pellets the fish showed over the baits on both mornings and things looked good for a bite. However, the action I received were from tench, one a female around the 4lb mark and the other a male a couple of ounces of 7lbs.
