After a few very long weeks at work I am on my way around the M25 to meet bailiff and friend Pete, who has very kindly sorted me out a 48 hour guest ticket on an old syndicate water of mine.

30lbs 2oz
First impressions are good. With only three anglers on the lake and the sun shining, finding a few should not be too difficult. Sure enough we found fish almost immediately but they were held up in very large weed beds so angling for them was not on the cards. We opted for two swims about half way down the lake, these both had clear runs in the weed which the fish used as patrol routes. After a few casts with the marker and a few more with the spod, everything was in place and all that was needed was to wait. Although seeing a couple of fish show, the day ended quietly with no action to speak of.
At first light I was woke by an alarm but unfortunately it wasn’t mine, it was Pete’s. I put my boots on and ran into his swim just as he netted the fish. A big common lay in the folded mesh and after placing it on the mat and unhooking it, she sent the needle on the scales around to 36lb plus. Result! The rest of the day ended quietly but still another day to go.
I woke on the last morning, bobbins were just where I’d left them the night before. I put the kettle on for the first brew of the day. The kettle hadn’t even boiled when my right hand rod burst in to life and before I had even woke up I was playing my first carp of the session. After a good hard fight in and out of weed beds the fish finally graced the net and went 30lb 02oz on the scales. Two anglers, two fish and two thirties, not a bad weekend at all!
I would like to thank Pete for making it happen and would love to return soon.
Good luck
Neil.
