Conditions seemed spot on for this weeks overnighter,overcast with some showers,a slight pressure drop and a southerly wind.
I found three areas with the intension of fishing for tench and laid down a good carpet of mixed halibut pellets, skinz feed, tuna spod mix and Tutti Frutti corn, probably three pints on each rod.
As dusk came tench began to roll on two of the areas. I was fairly sure I would get takes at some point and sure enough at midnight my first run.
I played the fish to within ten yards of the bank and the hook fell out,gutted!
Two hours later another run and the same happened again!
I could not explain the hookpulls and went to sleep completely demoralised.
Morning came a no no more runs. The sun was now out and there was an early morning chill and it just did not feel right anymore .
As the morning progressed I thought a blank was on the cards then out of the blue one of the rods ripped off. The fish felt really heavy and it took 80yds of line from the reel. After about 20 minutes and a right old tussle a cracking carp was in the net.Not the intended quarry but it put a right smile on my face, result!
