The Frensham ponds had been quite kind to me over the first couple of weeks of the season producing some lovely Rudd. I don’t think I could be blamed for returning for a couple of evenings to see what the lake had in store. The weather had turned very warm and I decided to fish a couple of overnight sessions in between work. With the weather being so warm I didn’t think it would be worth the extra effort of fishing the days.
Wednesday evening I returned with the feeder rods and after settling into a swim I spodded out a tin of Sonubaits Hemp N Corn mixed with a couple of handfuls of maggots. After several recasts dusk was soon upon us and several big Rudd showed themselves by their splashy rolls over the feed. Disaster struck and due to the weed which was growing rapidly I lost the first three I hooked. After getting over the frustration I landed three tench in quick succession before heading for home.
With the weather forecast to remain very warm for the next few days I decided to head to the eel lake. Two overnight sessions where planned. The first session resulted in a take at dawn and after a good tussle resulted in an eel weighing 4lb 7oz. The following night drew a blank and I reeled in and went to work the next day. A mixed week and with the weather so warm I am going to start looking at some of my local rivers for when the first rain arrives. Having just seen the excellent range of barbel baits by Sonubaits I cant wait to give them a try.
