spacer A Sticky Two-Part Method Mix That Works - Geoff Vallance   21 JANUARY 2009
spacer spacer spacer

When I fish the Method feeder, I swear by a rather unusual mix that involves the use of Sonu Skinz pellets, to help create a really sticky base mix which also incorporates the best-selling P Mix.

I take a bait bucket, pour a bag of the 4mm yellow-coloured Skinz pellets into it, and then add three pints of water.
I allow the pellets to totally dissolve, then I tip a full bag of P Mix into the liquid, mix with a drill, and the end result is a fabulous groundbait mix which has the texture of a sticky paste.
This is what I call my Method feeder base mix, and I form a ball of this around the method feeder.
I then use my thumb to make an indent, put my hookbait into the depression I have created in the paste, and then bind a second coat or skin of pure, unaldulterated P Mix around the base mix.
When I cast the Method feeder out, what happens is that the outer skin of P Mix starts breakinfg up quickly, creating an attractive cloud in the water, which draws fish into the peg.
But the base mix is still wrapped around the feeder and this triggers carp to investigate and they start attacking the feeder before coming across the hook-bait, which results in a  violent bite and a fish on, hopefully!
I mix both the base and outer mixes up the night before a match and I work on the basis that I want the feeder to come in, with a fish attached, with a  good amount of groundbait still stuck to the feeder.
When this happens you know the mix is right. It helps to speed up your catch rate, because you spend less time moulding groundbait around the Method feeder and more time out in the lake waiting for bites!
Another good tip worth trying is squeezing the middle bit out of a grain of corn and simply fishing the corn skin, hair-rigged, on the Method feeder.
You can catch up to eight fish on the same corn skin.
You get bites faster with this little tip.
Give it a try and impress your mates!
