It seems I’m becoming a specialist chub angler, as this is all I can catch at the moment.

Having a deadline to produce a Cemex feature for a magazine I decided to give the River Kennet at Burghfield a go. Unfortunately with the high pressure and easterly wind, roach were out of the question and I returned home after an afternoon session fishless. Scratching my head I switched my attention to chub and over two short sessions managed four, the best 5lbs 1oz. With the feature complete I returned to the Loddon and the swim that’s I have been baiting. Two bites later and another two chub I returned home frustrated, however after baiting the swim I’d dropped into another swim further upstream and luck was on my side as a very big barbel surfaced and then headed upstream leaving a stream of bubbles behind it. If this was a patrol route then I might just be able to stop it on route and feed, so returned the next night and sat it out all night over a bed of hemp. Although nothing happened apart from a bream I do believe that lm getting closer so next week I will be giving the river a whole day, going back to the results that scored last season and roving around.
