spacer Stepping Up Feed Pellet Size Can Bring Results - Paul Coyle   14 SEPTEMBER 2009
spacer spacer spacer

I've just won a 50-plus peg match at Bannister House Fishery - and I used a valuable trick involving stepping up the size of my Sonu Fin Perfect Feed pellets that boosted me to victory.

I had drawn peg 52 on the main lake, a peg which had not been doing much in recent weeks. The trick was to fish tight across to the stick ups in two-and-a half feet of water.
But the stamp and species I was catching - small tench and chub - meant I was in no danger of framing.
I had been feeding 2mm Sonu feed pellets, and I remembered that in recent weeks I had attracted a better stamp by feeding 4mm Fin Perfect feed pellets.
So I prepared a tubful and the change in the swim was instant, with better carp getting in on the act immediately.
The rig was a Preston PB7 with a bulk at half-depth and no droppers, meaning the 4mm Sonubaits expander pellet slowly dropped through the last foot or so. It was so good, in fact, that at times as the bait settled the 13H Hollo elastic was ripped out of the pole tip by the fish. The main line was 0.13mm Power Line with a hooklength of the same diameter, but with a size 18 PR32 for the expander pellet.
I went on to put 113lb of carp and tench and chub on the scales for a victory, which was worth some valuable Kamasan points.
Just a word about the 4mm Fin Perfect feed pellets. I like to put an amount into a tub, cover with water and drain immediately. It gives them weight but doesn't soften them - and they are perfect for feeding, making more noise as you cup them in or catapult them to your float.
Don't forget that carp are attracted to noise, so my pellet tip is worth noting.
