It was back to Frensham again and after last weeks wind and rain l was looking forward to some dry conditions. The skies cleared and the late afternoon sunshine gave way to fog which became freezing fog after dark with temperatures dropping to –1 degrees on my departure at 11pm. The fog became so bad that the far bank markers to cast to became impossible to see, in fact just venturing out fifteen yards to cast then turning round to walk back to the shore became a bit scary. The bites were far more spread out over the session but once again it was the left hand rod that produced most of the action from four rudd to 1lb 14oz, a tench and a perch. Looking at the forecast tomorrow looks far more promising with a low of six degrees.
The afternoon fog lifted as darkness fell leaving a calm, mild evening, however as the evening progressed a south east wind begun to blow pushing loads of floating weed in front of the swim, however l made the most of the conditions taking fourteen rudd which included four two’s before leaving at 11pm. The same tactics are working with helicopter rigs fished over a spodded bed of Sonubaits hemp and maggots.
Early Friday morning l met my dad to take a look at a small commercial with a reputation for some big perch. Four hours fishing was managed over which time three perch came to my net, all taken on lobworms, the biggest a shade over three pounds, not a bad way to open my account.
It was back to FBP in the evening and with conditions l was rubbing my hands together but as Frensham has done so many times over the twenty or so years l have fished it, it did the opposite to what l expected and just one bite came at dusk, definitely a rudd but this found some floating weed on the way in and came off. Taking a look at the conditions, there was a hint of an easterly in the air however l feel this lake is one that moon phases does effect as their just has to be some underlying factor that effects it contrary to the obvious.
