spacer Day Tench Session - Kevin Durman   20 OCTOBER 2010
spacer spacer spacer

Its not often that I actually go just for the day as I nearly always have a few days off at a time or at least do a night after work as well as the following day. But with other commitments and a change in work schedule i've just had the one day off this week.

So in way of a change from my usual Carping I decided to fish for Tench on Mid Kent Fisheries Reed lake.

Now if I had been Carping this weekend I would have taken plenty of bait with me as this is the time of year that the Carp do like to have a good old munch.  I do not think that Tench necessarily have the same big feed up so with this in mind I decided not to bait heavily and to just fish the feeder to keep what I was putting in nice and tight.

A great many items from match fishing now cross over to the specimen world and this is very much the case with the Preston Innovations method feeders and quick release method mould.  I find these in the extra large size to be superb for my Tench fishing.  The 45g model giving the required bolt effect as well as giving enough bait to keep a large fish interested.  The mix I’m using at this time of year is the Match method mix with just a small handful of pellets added, in this instance the 4mm Elipticals.  This mix is one that is not overly filling but again keeps the bigger specimens searching around for the odd pellet.

I fished two rods casting on average every 20 minutes alternating various baits including the trusty maggot, corn and the Barbel and Carp hookbait pellets in Garlic and Cheese.

I finished the day with 4 Tench the biggest 6lb on the Garlic and Cheese pellet, not massive but good sport on my soft rods that don’t come out the rod bag too often.
