Two days after catching an 11lb 6oz barbel from the River Blackwater, at the end of the session I deposited some bait into the swim when I left with the idea on returning a few days later. Two days passed and I was back in the swim and using a bait dropper I deposited a tin of Hemp N Corn and some 6mm Elliptical barbel and carp pellets. Just before dark I lowered two rigs onto the feed and it wasn’t long before I started getting line bites as the fish moved up onto the feed.
An hour into darkness the bottom rod pulled round and after an excellent fight in this small river I was soon netting another big Blackwater barbel. Placing her on the mat it was a fish I recognised due to the scar across its back and was the fish I broke the river record with last October. This time she weighed a little smaller at 11lb 4oz and took a liking to a Sonubaits 13mm halibut pellet.
I baited the swim for two evenings and then returned two days later. Lowering two hook baits onto the feed at dark I soon started getting line bites. I had to wait a frustrating hour before a fish decided to make a mistake and picked up a 13mm Sonubaits Halibut pellet. After extracting the fish from weed bed after weed bed the fish was soon being brought over the waiting net. Weighing 10lb 2oz it was my third double figure barbel from the Blackwater in a week.
