Spodding over zig rigs can be a devastating method on certain waters when fish are in the right mood. It is something which I have done with great success in the past on a number of different waters. I believe in actively fishing for carp rather than the static approach and Lake Gweryd in Wales is one of the most productive waters when this method is used.

Unfortunately when I arrived I knew things were going to be difficult as the fish were spawning hard in the reeds to my left.
Undeterred I mixed up the spod soup which I was going to continually spod out over the top of a zig rig. It consisted of 1 bag of Super Carp Method Mix, 1 Bag of Supercrush Green, half a bag of Hemp and Hali Crush, some sonubaits Red Dye, two handfuls of Tuna Wraps, 1 tin of tuna, half a bag of Tutti Frutti Boilie Pellets and lots of water!
I wanted the mix to be fairly sloppy so it created a cloud on impact with the water which dropped over the zig rig below. I also wanted enough mixed to last me for a few hours, because once you get going it is important not to stop as this will mean the fish will loose interest.
I fished one rod out in open water in about 6 foot of water and one rod along the side of the reeds to my left and the tactic was to fire 3 spods over each one and keep changing.
It was a great struggle as the majority of the fish were spawning but I believe that sat behind static rods I would not have caught anything as all the other anglers on the lake proved.
After about 2 hours of spodding I noticed a few fish crusing round underneath the spods and eventually I got a pick up which resulted in a nice mid double common.
This is a tactic which has caught me loads of fish in the past but I dont often see other people taking advantage of it.
My Advice would be to give it a go!
