spacer Why Sonu F1 Groundbait Is My All-Time Favourite - Lee Kerry   12 JANUARY 2010
spacer spacer spacer

With the inactivity caused by the big freeze-up this winter, I have had time to think about baits and groundbaits that I use, and I can say without doubt that Sonu's F1 Groundbait is my all-time favourite because of its all-round appeal and sheer versatility.

Before Sonubaits' F1 groundbait came on to the market, I always felt that all fishmeal-based groundbaits were much the same as one another, the only difference perhaps being choice of colour.
But the F1 groundbait is different because although it contains plenty of fishmeal particles, it also contains sweet ingredients which give off a brasem-type aroma.
While F1 groundbait is good for silver fish species such as roach and skimmers, carp really like it, too, which is no surprise to me, as I firmly believe that carp like sweet-tasting baits, particularly in the winter, while skimmers adore fishmeal.
In fact, if you are targeting skimmers there is no reason why you can't add more fishmeal to a mix if you want to, without it doing any harm.
So why else do I like Sonubaits' F1 groundbait so much? Well, I like the fact that you can squeeze it hard to ball it in, yet it breaks down fairly quickly once on the deck. You can also use it through a swimfeeder, and I tend to use F1 groundbait on its own when I tackle clear water venues like Porth reservoir in Cornwall.
For clear water venues like Porth, I add a little black dye to the mix to darken it slightly before mixing up.
One tip I would like to mention is to mix F1 groundbait on the bank on the day you are fishing, and not the night before. F1 groundbait needs an hour-and-a-half to fully absorb the water, so mix it as soon as you arrive at your peg, or, if this isn't possible, mix it before setting off to the venue.
