spacer Sonubaits Casters Helped Me Bag 190lb Bream Haul   10 APRIL 2008

I've just enjoyed one of the most memorable match fishing days of my life, catching 190lb of bream in a six-hour contest - and Sonubaits' Casters hook pellets helped me to do it.

The venue is a place called Whitevayne Lake near Horsham in Sussex, and it is predominantly a carp water, although we had known for several years that it had a good head of bream in it.

Just after Christmas, some mates started fishing there and were catching 100lb-plus bags. It didn't take long for the word to spread around the match angling grapevine and the result has been a series of Wednesday opens, with the likes of England international Steve Gardener in attendance.
In fact, the week before my special catch, he won the previous contest with 146lb of slabs. On the day I did the damage I decided an attacking feeding policy would be the key and at the outset I used a carp rod and a spod to put between four and six pints of 4mm Fin perfect feed pellets and sweetcorn into my swim.

I had three bream in three casts at the start and then sat, for an hour-and-a-half, watching the tip of my rod as I suffered liner after liner. I reckon in that 90 minutes of torture I only added another half-dozen bream to the keepenet.

But then they decided it was time to get their heads down, and for two hours I sacked up. After four hours I reckoned on having around 100lb, and in the last last couple of hours, having put another keepnet in, I had another 80lb. It was amazing fishing, and the bream, which averaged between 2lb and 4lb, just kept feeding, with odd bigger samples up to 6lb coming along.

The killer hookabit for them were the Sonubaits Casters 8mm Tutti Frutti pellets, which were hair-rigged on to a PR36 size 16, using a Korum Quick Stop. The rod I used was the Preston Sentient 11-13 Feeder, in 11 foot mode, with 6lb Direct Mono on the reel, a large open end Preston feeder and a hooklength made from 14 inches of 0.15mm Powerline.

I alternated the hair-rigged sonubaits Casters pellets with sweetcorn and it worked a treat. I think the bream liked the Casters pellets because the Tutti Frutti pellet is yellow and looks like sweetcorn.

Whatever the reason, it certainly did the damage, with a mix of Fin Perfect Mix 1 and Fin Perfect Mix 2 groundbait going through the feeder, fished at 40 yards, with a lot of hard 4mm Fin Perfect feed pellets also going through the feeder.

I can't wait to get back there and try to do the double ton. The fishing's that good it has to be a possibility!
