Since the river season started I have been fishing nowhere other than the Thames and I have enjoyed a run of wins, utilising Sonu's Silver Crush Match groundbait as part of my game plan.
Silver Crush Match is the perfect groundbait for targeting silverfish on canals, lakes and rivers. The blend of biscuits, crushed seeds and spices make this the ideal groundbait for pole, waggler or feeder fishing.
Due to the versatility of this groundbait it can act as a carrier for maggots, corn and worms ensuring all the bait gets to the bottom before breaking up and releasing the feed.
It is simple to mix, just add water and mix until the desired consistency is reached, then allow 30 minutes for the particles to fully absorb the water, then add more water if required. It can then be put through a riddle to give it a more fluffy texture.
I have found, however, that my preferred way to mix it is four hours before the match, so that it can absorb a lot of water. The biscuit content enables it to do this while remaining 'heavy', so that when you ball it in at the start of a match, the balls hit the bottom before starting to break up.
On the Thames I have been adding half a pint of dead maggots, bronzes and reds, and half-a-pint of hempseed, to the groundbait before balling it in.
I've elasticated the top three of my pole with a number five elastic and I have been using the Preston PB Silver 4, which is rugby ball-shaped, with a spread bulk of number eights, with two number eights as droppers. Main line is 0.128mm Preston Xceed mono to a .08mm hooklength of the same material, finished off with a size 16 Preston PR311 hook.
So far this season I have had two winning dace weights of 9lb apiece, all fish from 2oz to 5oz, and one 11lb weight which was a 50-50 split of roach and dace. Lovely fishing.
If you like catching roach and dace and want a truly versatile all-round groundbait for these species, I have no hesitation in recommending Sonu Silver Crush Match - it's the business!
