spacer UK Champs Success Thanks to Sonubaits - Tommy Pickering   15 OCTOBER 2009

Regular Sonu website blog readers will probably know that I recently won the UK Championships this year for the third time – the first man to do it – and my consistency was down, in a big part, to the quality range of baits that I had at my disposal from the Sonubaits stable.

I finished the four-round series tied on 36 points with fellow Yorkshireman Darren Cox, but took the verdict with overall weight deciding the outcome.
With an aggregate of 187-254 to Darren’s 174-186 it earned me £1,500 plus the new trophy, is too big for my cabinet!
On the final round at Barston, I drew end peg 123 on the golf course bank, a fancied peg on the day.
I fished for carp on the Method feeder but was pestered by small F1s. Fortunately, my 13m pole line finally came good after two hours, giving me 30 plus fish, mainly quality skimmers and big F1s on pellet .
The weight of 32-100 was good enough for a share of fifth overall on the day with Andy Findlay.
But casting my mind back, I ued a variety of Sonubaits products on the road to victory.
First up, on the first round at Lindholme, I used Sonubaits' F1 groundbait on the Method feeder, casting tight to an island. My weight of 101lb of carp gave me a second in section – a good start.
Round two was at Larford and there I used the Des Ship-designed Sonubaits Method Mix on the Match Lake. Again I drew near the top end where there is an island and I kept punching my Method feeder across, for a weight of 52 kilos.
Round Three was at Gold Valley and I won this particular competition, with a weight of 126lb. I caught all my fish on Method feeder, but this time I packed soaked Sonubaits 2mm Fin Perfect feed pellets around the frame.
And then came the last round at Barston. I started on the Method feeder but also loosefed 6mm hard feed pellets from the Sonubaits Fin Perfect range and polefished a banded 6mm pellet at 13 metres to catch skimmers. In all I caught 61 fish, and the breakdown was ten skimmers and 51 F1s.
The pole rig at Barston comproised a Preston Innovations PB Inter 1 pole float in .3g, and I teamed it with a 9H Preston Hollo elastic. I used a Preston PR36 size 18 hook with the band hair-rigged and the float took two x 10 Stotz droppers and a small bulk of number nine Stotz.
