As you can probably imagine due to the nature of my job, the run up to June 16th is the busiest time for me. So unfortunately my fishing suffers a bit. But now all the mundane jobs are done and all fishermen are happy (yea right!!!) it’s time to start having a look about.

For once the weather men got the forecast spot on; very strong south westerly with overcast and a little light rain. Perfect carp weather after spawning and all hungry and ready to feed. Now, I had to go over to one of the LVRPA lakes to do some very important fisheries work (cough! cough!) and knowing the lake like the back of my hand, there was only one area I had an inkling the carp would turn up. I was right, after standing there for ten minuets I saw about ten fish show right on the spot.
This area is right in the middle of three islands at about 80 yards with a bar running through the middle. I think the fish like this part of the lake as it has everything they need, shelter from the weather behind the islands, top of the bar or just enjoying the wind. As there was no way of getting a spod or free baits to the area I decided to go with the ever faithful Tutti-frutti Boosted Wraps singles. But this time I tried something a little different.......
Because I needed to get maximum attraction around my hook bait I placed a good handful of Tutti-frutti Boilie Pellets into my bait chopper and turned it into a very fine powder. Then I mixed up my usual Hemp and Hali Crush and 4mm pellets and mixed this 50/50 with the boilie pellet powder, added a little hemp oil and jobs a good'un. Just to look at this mix you know that if a fish passes, it must stop and investigate. So confidence high and a few little PVA bags made up I was ready to go.
The fish started to slow down on the aerial display about an hour before dark but I knew they would be lower in the water but still in the area. So all traps set and I settled down for the night full of optimism.
I didn’t get any action until 3:30am when the left hand rod was away. The fish didn’t go bananas like I thought it would but as I was getting close to netting I noticed it was covered in weed. So when in the bottom of the net and the weed was removed, then it went mad!!!! I had the crap kicked out of me by a much spawned out 27lb 3oz common. I was over the moon. It has seemed like so long since I've had a good fish and with everything coming together, I took some self take shots (not very good ones!!!) and put her back.
Just as I put the recast back on the buzz bars the middle rod was away!!! This time I had a little more of a scrap and slid the net under a 21lb 8oz very bronze stunning common. What a night!! So as the rain started to get a bit heaver I did a few mat shots and sent her back home. This lake can be a bit tricky to say the least so to walk away with two in the bag, I was buzzing.
I will always have total confidence in the Boosted wraps and with a new little trick up my sleeve with the crushed boilie pellets, I just can't wait to get out again. Have a go!!!
And I kept my rods intact eh Mark?
