Method feeder fishing is constantly evolving and because of this anglers are constantly looking to give themselves the edge over both the fish and each other. The good new is that the Sonu Baits range, including P Mix and F1 Groundbait, is perfect for coping with all sorts of different venues and after a lot of experimenting I can reveal a few of my findings.
Shallow venues with mainly carp: Anglers started to use soft mixes on this type of venue, but personally I feel this is a mistake. It leads to carp swimming around in the surrounding cloud and can lead to foul hookers and an unsettled shoal.
Because of this, I start with a base of the new F1 mix. This sweet, fishmeal groundbait is perfect for carp and has some fine crushed pellet content that settles quickly on the bottom if disturbed. To this I add around 30 per cent of P Mix. This mix is sticky in comparison and ensures the groundbait stays around the feeder long enough to provoke aggressive feeding from nearby carp.
A top tip with the mix is to take two tins of Sonu Baits Scopex Super Scent sweetcorn and blend it quickly in a food mixer. Combining this to the mix adds to the sweet and sticky effect of the groundbait, and lends itself perfectly to a hair-rigged corn hookbait.
All round venues: Many venues now have both carp and other species, such as bream, F1s and tench. Fopr these venues I wanted to find a mix that meant I could cast regularly and create an attractive cloud that would give smaller species confidence, yet still provide some feed to hold fish in the peg.
My base for this mix is therefore Supercrush Green, with the black version used on venues with clearer water. To this I add half a bag of damp, Fin Perfect 1mm feed pellets. These provide additional binding power on the cast, yet break down quickly on the bottom, creating a bed of feed for fish to graze over. Try the Sonu Baits White Boilie Pellets in 6mm with this groundbait Method feeder mix, as they often pick out the bigger species, especially bream.
Finally, I always use the new Method Mould from Preston Innovations. This ensures consistent breakdown and an aero dynamic casting shape for accuracy. Without a shadow of a doubt this innovative little device has certainly improved my catch rates.
