Carp angling holidays on a plane are never going to be a case of pack everything and the kitchen sink; in fact they are just the opposite.

Another big Carp falls to Tuna Wraps

With today’s cheap budget flights comes the affordable and easy way to make foreign carp angling available to almost everyone, but with the low cost airlines you pay  a harsh penalty in the baggage allowance. The burden can be eased with regards to the amount of tackle required by booking an angling guide who provides all but your end tackle and hook baits, this is the option I chose when I booked with the Matt at Fat angling tours.

Now although this sounds very easy there are a number of pitfalls to watch out for. If like me you have confidence in certain pieces of your own angling equipment and baits then unfortunately somewhere along the line some of the clothes and niceties are going to compromise on your weight limit.

On this trip I took an ESP bits bag that contained the necessary end tackle, PVA, etc. Even without the leads this soon mounted up in weight. Now when it came to bait I had something of a dilemma, I neither had the room or the weight allowance to take my trusted Halibut and S pellets plus all my usual pots of hook baits and as for free offerings then these were obviously out of the question. The answer was simple: - take my most trusted pop ups and wafters and then cram in as many sonubaits Tuna Wraps as I could manage. These little gems gave me the best of all worlds for the paste wrap acted as a pellet giving off instant attraction into the water and the harder inner not only balanced my snowmen set up but also gave at least a few hours protection against the Crayfish that were present in the reservoir and due to them being shelf life would not deteriorate in transit or in warm continental weather.

Well needless to say my angling adventure on the Orelleana in the Extremadura region of Spain was a success, With the help of top guide Matt in three days of fishing I managed over fifteen takes landing all bar a few. Although I did try a few other hook bait options my Tuna Wrap snowman set up of a wrap and a small fluro 10 mm popup was by far the most successful  accounting for nearly all of my takes. My only regret was that I was unable to take more of these as when I included some of the wraps into the ground bait mix of maize chopped boilies and mixed pulses the takes seemed to come even faster. By night fall on the last day I was absolutely shattered but had managed truly wild Carp to just over the magical thirty. I will definitely be back to fish this venue and rest assured when I do next time I will be leaving even more clothes at home and taking even more wraps.
