Sunday night I headed to a Surrey lake for a short overnight session in search of the venues grass carp population. I had been watching a few fish in recent weeks and some of them looked a worthy target.

After receiving some new tins from Ian at sonubaits which contained a mixture of Hemp and Tigers I was keen to get out and try them. I cast a couple of balanced tiger nut hook baits out into the area where the fish had been showing with a dozen spods of the rest of the tin and 4mm halibut pellets around each rod. At first light I had a slow take which resulted in a 24lb 6oz grass carp.
Tuesday saw the arrival of A CEMEX ticket I had been waiting for. Catfish were the next target species and I headed to Yateley for a quick overnight session after work. Armed with a bag of Action boilies flavoured with Crab & Crayfish I slotted in amongst the 14 anglers that were already on the venue. Happy with my swim I put a good scattering of baits over each rod. At 12:30am the margin rod screamed off and after a good fight I netted the first catfish of the campaign weighing 30lb 8oz.
I returned Thursday night and with 15 people in residence I was left with a poor swim which resulted in a blank. I headed back Friday night in the hope that a better swim would be available. Setting up I felt confident and had some new Session Plum & Shellfish boilies from Sonubaits to try. Just before first light I had a take and after a long fight I netted a new Personal best catfish weighing 45lbs. A fantastic result on the new boilie and I am sure I will have plenty more fish on it this season.
