After a great zander fishing session on Saturday my tackle was thoroughly saturated due to the heavy rain that I had experienced that trip.

It took a whole day for my gear to dry out and once Sunday evening had come round I was beginning to think of what to target next. With more mild weather conditions forecast I decided to revisit the lake I had fished the week before in search of carp. With it being so close to work and the mild conditions would have kept the fish active and moving I fancied my chance of a bite of two, although I was to get a little bit more than I had bargained for.
Arriving at the lake on Monday evening well after dark I was pleasantly surprised to see a lack of anglers in attendance. I settled into a swim that commanded a lot of the open water and cast two Sonubaits 13mm halibut pellets accompanied with a small PVA bag containing a pinch of 4mm and 6mm sonubaits halibut pellets out into the middle of the lake.
Only twenty minutes after casting my bobbin on the left hand rod pulled up tight and I bent into what felt like a good fish. After ten minutes I knew I was into one of the better fish when I faced a further problem, my remaining rod received a take too! Luckily I had a friend on had to help out and after netting my first, a common weighing 25lb 4oz I slipped the net under my second fish a mirror weighing around 17lb.
Recasting the rods back out to the middle of the lake an hour later I received another take landing a common around 12lb. After returning this fish I packed up and went home a happy angler. Not a bad result for a short after work session lasting a couple of hours.
